Join our Board

Be You Group is approaching its fifth year, and is recognised as a positive force within the music theatre industry. We are proud to do things differently.

Be You is a registered charity located in Melbourne, Victoria and was established for the sole purpose of empowering and enabling performers. Our work bridges the gap between community theatre and the professional theatre industry, with a major focus on lowering barriers to entry into the industry. This includes our offering of skill-development workshops offered at low or no cost to participants, and our audition grants program, which covers the fees of auditioning for formal training at Australian theatre institutions.

We also run profit-share productions and showcases to provide performance opportunities to Victorian performers and ample opportunities for public appreciation of the arts. These endeavours are funded with the profits from Broadway Unplugged; a live show every two months that showcases professional talent, and provides a unique platform for a group of backing vocalists to work alongside professionals in the industry for a full year. All our activities are in pursuit of advancing culture - a charitable purpose as per the Charities Act 2013 (Cth).

We are targeting "diversity as the norm", increasing exposure to a greater range of artist, audience and community voices and perspectives including LGBTQIA+; Aboriginal & Torres strait islander people, people of colour, people living with disability, multi-faith, multi-cultural, inter-generational and socially isolated. We operate under the principles of Balance and Belonging.

The Board

The Be You board operates as a skills-based board with a number of subcommittees and working groups. Applicants will be expected to be able to significantly contribute to Board discussions, planning and committee work, guiding strategic direction and positioning the social enterprise for long-term success.

Board Opportunities

We are challenging perceptions of music theatre within Melbourne and empowering the performers within. If measurable and far reaching outcomes that go beyond the ticking of boxes excite you, and you're keen to roll up your sleeves in the build for happier, healthier, safer and stronger music theatre community that works for all peoples, then we would love to hear from you.

If you are interested in serving on the board we can provide opportunities to expand your resume and give you a foot in the door to creative industries as you will have full access to mentoring and collaboration on all our projects.

These are voluntary board positions and as such no fees are payable. The board is keen to have as many intersectionalities represented as possible and will be actively recruiting and seeking diversity in its composition and strongly encouraging applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people of colour, LGBTQIA+, trans and gender diverse individuals, intersex individuals, people with disability, and any other people who share unique perspectives due to their experiences.
